“Congo: between electoral challenges, social crises and government initiatives”

The CENCO-ECC Electoral Observation Mission has just opposed the approach of the Independent National Electoral Commission relating to the call for tenders for the recruitment of its international and national auditors for the electoral register. The two religious denominations fear that the authors chosen are not independent and that their report is directed or manipulated. However, the CENI has included the external audit of the electoral register in the electoral calendar and in the Strategic and Operational Plan 2022-2026, which enshrines the principle of transparency at each stage of the electoral process.

With this in mind, the mission of integrity and electoral mediation of religious denominations highlights the work of identification and enrollment carried out by the CENI in record time. It encourages, for the sake of transparency, the external audit of the electoral register. The CENI, meanwhile, insists that it does not need to be pressured of any kind on this issue. It is important that the credibility of the electoral process be ensured by full transparency at every stage, including the audit of the electoral register.

In a similar move, the Congolese government passed six bills to ratify credits to boost the country’s economic and social development. Despite the challenges, the government is not giving up and remains determined to move forward, as illustrated by its emergency plan for the corn flour crisis.

At the same time, the Congolese people are being hit by deadly floods and increasing sexual violence. The international associations and organizations therefore insist on the management of migratory flows between the DRC and Angola to improve the situation and called on the UNHCR to relaunch the technical cooperation framework. The health crisis is therefore far from being the country’s only problem and the government is committed to numerous initiatives to meet its challenges.

In another register, Congolese news is also marked by the death of Samy Mikobi, an emblematic figure of Congolese show business. The people pay homage to this endearing personality who marked the artistic landscape of the country.

Finally, agents dismissed from the Presidency of the Republic contest their departure and wish to put forward their arguments. In parallel, the crisis in the DRC continues and Tshisekedi demands the departure of the ACRF, the SADC being in reinforcement in this perspective.

Congolese news is therefore multiple, oscillating between crucial electoral questions, social conflicts, natural disasters and bereavements. The Congolese government is showing initiatives to respond to these various challenges
