“Report of the opposition march in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other political news of the week”

The Congolese opposition will postpone its march to May 20, 2023. This is the decision taken by opponents Martin Fayulu, Moïse Katumbi, Delly Sesanga and Matata Ponyo in Kinshasa during a meeting this Friday, May 12, 2023. This decision comes after the postponement of the Kinshasa City Hall march, which suggested that security reasons are behind the postponement when it was scheduled for May 18. According to the local press, the opponents had planned this march to protest against the aggression suffered by the country in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo by Rwanda, which would support the M23.

Despite this postponement, opposition leaders are mobilizing for the elections scheduled for the end of next year. Many opposition candidates for the 2024 presidential elections have expressed their commitment to participate in the elections on time.

In other news this week, President Felix Tshisekedi encouraged Botswana investors to take advantage of the many opportunities available to investors in his country, while the Education, Ecology and Culture Commission (Educiel) called for a consensual audit of the electoral register in ground floor.

Additionally, mass arrests of suspected bandits were made in Beni as the government announced an end to the misuse of physical space in areas prone to natural disasters across the country. This follows the affordable mobility solution TRANSCO, which was launched in Kasai Central to help residents of Kananga and Tshikaji get around more easily.

Finally, companies seeking bidders for public works posted major tender offers this week, including MMG Kinsevere SARL, which is seeking bidders for the construction of concrete slabs and retaining walls in the new EW shed. Distel Zola has also been named the new nutrition ambassador in the DRC
