The army in Ituri recently claimed to have recovered more than 350 villages hidden in the territories of Djugu, Irumu and Mambasa, including the territory of Mahagi. This operation takes place within the framework of the offensive operations carried out by the armed forces against the signatory and non-signatory armed groups of the Nairobi agreement, which was concretized by the P-DDRCS.
According to the army spokesman, several roads in the province have also been reopened, formerly besieged by armed groups. Large towns once considered the epicenter of violence and previously occupied by armed groups have been stabilized. Local armed groups with a community connotation are the subject of particular attention, with awareness campaigns to encourage them to lay down their arms and participate in the peace process.
The army announces the neutralization of more than 300 ADF and allies, 80 surrendered, 40 arrested, tried and sentenced by the Military Justice of Ituri. This military approach is combined with an educational and cultural approach to promote peace and development.
In short, the army managed to stabilize Ituri province in two years of a state of siege. The significant reduction in the capacity of foreign armed groups ADF, the disarmament of local militias and the education of the population on the culture based on the resolution of peaceful conflicts are feats that can be attributed to the army’s approach .
These results allow the province to be on the way to stabilization, contrary to its past 20 years. Peace and development are the values that guide the country towards a bright future
