News in the DRC: an attack by militias kills at least nine people near Kinshasa
At least nine people have been killed in a militia attack that took place near Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to local witnesses, the attack took place in the village of Yosso, about ten kilometers from the city. The perpetrators of the attack are believed to be members of the Mobondo community, who oppose the Yaka, another local community.
It would seem that this attack originated in a land dispute between the Teke and the Yaka, following the installation of the latter in villages bordering the Congo River, claimed by the Teke.
This deadly attack follows other violence, in regions of the country often subject to the acts of armed groups. Thus, the eastern regions are particularly affected by this violence. But it happens that hotbeds of tension are reported in other regions.
Several other land disputes have recently been reported, such as that between the Mbole and Lengola tribes in the province of Kisangani, in the center-east of the country.
This recurrent violence causes many deaths and displacements, and the situation tends to deteriorate day by day in the country. Solutions must be found to put an end to this violence and pacify the country in the interest of the local populations. Repressive measures must also be taken to punish the perpetrators of this violence and prevent such attacks from happening again.
