In a recent announcement, the notable of the Territory of Walikale in the province of North Kivu, and Honorary Minister of Hydrocarbons Rubens Mikendo, announced the implementation of an electrification project named “Nduma kasha” in the region. This ambitious program should supply approximately 250 households with a capacity of 45 kW, in addition to the public lighting of the main arteries.
The company Go-Shop and Anser have set up a voltaic power station for a total cost of 500,000 US dollars, thus allowing the distribution of electricity in “Cash power” mode in Walikale-centre. This project was made possible thanks to a Congolese associate living in the province of Tshopa, who promised to extend the project throughout the territory of Walikale. Installation costs modulated according to income, as well as the recruitment of a local workforce, are added to the free network connection costs.
During a meeting with young people from Walikale, Rubens Mikendo praised the contribution of the government which financed this collective initiative to the tune of 100,000 US dollars. This electrification will greatly help the population of this locality, given that Walikale has never known the existence of electricity, ie a situation that is widespread across the country.
In the current situation in the DRC, electrification projects of this type are increasingly common in response to trade embargoes imposed on the Congolese State due in particular to pollution and the excessive emission of greenhouse gases. greenhouse of some electromechanical generators. In addition, the creation of renewable energy projects, such as this one, helps improve air quality as well as economic prospects, especially for local small and medium-sized businesses.
This initiative should inspire other similar projects in other regions of the country in order to provide equitable access to electricity for the entire population.
