Assessment of the state and administration of the national territory in the DRC: the report of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Peter Kazadi, presented at the Council of Ministers on May 5, has just pointed out the finger of clashes between the Mbole and Lengola communities in the province of Tshopo, with many losses in human lives, injuries and displacements in the city of Kisangani. Precautionary measures have been taken, and a joint mission is envisaged to restore public order and social peace.
There are also situations of intolerance between political parties in the provinces of Equateur, Haut-Katanga and Sankuru. Political leaders are called upon to educate their activists so that political parties do not become spaces for baseless confrontations.
The report of the Deputy Prime Minister also evokes the state of mind of the population during the past week. A large part of the national political opinion was generally satisfied following the mobilization observed on the occasion of the official release of the political platform “Sacred Union of the Nation”. In addition, there is an expectation of the population as to the outcome of the meeting of the Regional Monitoring Mechanism of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation on insecurity in eastern DRC, held in Bujumbura on May 5th.
In conclusion, the situation remains worrying in the DRC, with persistent community clashes, tensions between political parties and concerns about the safety of the entire population, in the east of the country as elsewhere.
