“Health situation in the DRC: cholera and measles on the rise, Covid-19 remains stable”

The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a complex health situation, marked by the presence of several epidemiological diseases such as cholera, measles and Covid-19. In this context, the Deputy Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Prevention Olen Obe A Nzem Serge presented a summary of the health situation during the Council of Ministers of the Republic chaired by the Head of State.

Cholera is spreading rapidly and the situation is worrying. The cumulative number of cases so far amounts to 1,215 cases including 16 deaths. With lethality increased from 0.75% to 1.32%, the situation is now more dangerous than before. As for measles, all the provinces of the country are affected and there is an increase in new cases compared to the previous week, i.e. 84,558 cases for a lethality of 1.17%.

Although the trend is on the rise, Covid-19 remains stable with a number of new cases which has increased slightly since the 16th epidemiological week. Lethality remains stabilized at around 1.5%. Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention calls for vaccination as a way of preventing and minimizing the impact of epidemics, all of which can spread rapidly.

In order to effectively fight against the spread of epidemics, the ministry has continued to advocate for the lifting of the restriction measures, due to the positive development of the situation at the global level. The Council of Ministers considers this issue each time the situation is reported.

Beyond this difficult health situation, other subjects are dealt with within the Council of Ministers such as the renovation of university sites, the fight against gold trafficking in certain provinces, insecurity in the east of the country. , the floods in South Kivu, the crushing victory of HC Lupopo against HC Imara Patro, the possibilities of sustainable development in Bagira and the professional integration of autodidacts in Ituri.

In the end, the Council of Ministers is doing everything possible to deal with the worrying situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
