
South Kivu in the DRC suffered severe flooding which engulfed the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi. More than 400 people have lost their lives and prominent figures across the country have issued a call to action, calling for a dignified funeral and burial. Local authorities work with the population to improve road accessibility and sustainable development to prevent and manage the risks of natural disasters. Volunteer relief workers have been mobilized and SADC is sending forces to restore peace in eastern DRC. Faced with these challenges, the DRC must act quickly to meet the needs of its populations.
