The Mobondo militia has been at the origin of violence in the Kwango province in the Democratic Republic of Congo for several weeks, having already left 33 dead and 18 injured. The clashes prompted more than 20,000 people to move, including many children, women and men. The displaced are exposed to precarious conditions and civil society accuses the government of not taking emergency measures. This violence is the result of a conflict between Teke and Yaka and the situation requires urgent intervention by the Congolese authorities and the assistance of humanitarian organizations.

Security is a major concern in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The presence of armed groups and foreign forces in the country increases the DRC’s vulnerability to external threats. Government authorities have not yet found effective solutions to preserve the integrity of the territory and ensure the safety of people and their property. Despite the creation of the EACRF regional force, thoughtful policy and effective diplomacy are needed to deal with security threats. Elections should be part of a long-term stabilization and peacebuilding process.

This article deals with the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, characterized by an electoral atmosphere marked by tensions between the leading teams and the opposition. Inter-ethnic violence and persistent insecurity in the east of the country, apparently accompanied by the complicity of Rwanda, continue to threaten the populations. In addition, multinationals exploit the country’s resources without worrying about the consequences for local populations. It is urgent for Congolese political actors to find solutions to pacify the country and develop the country’s key sectors, thus avoiding another cycle of contestation and division.
