The Democratic Republic of Congo is mobilizing for environmental protection and sustainable development, under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi. A recent meeting of the Council of Ministers in Mbuji-Mayi highlighted the importance of environmental issues, particularly in preparation for the international conference on payments for environmental services in Central Africa. This initiative aims to strengthen the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems while promoting transparent management of natural resources. Through increased international cooperation and changes in the 2025 finance law, the DRC is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
Environmental issues are at the heart of international discussions, and the Democratic Republic of Congo is no exception. Indeed, Head of State Félix Tshisekedi recently chaired a crucial meeting of the Council of Ministers in Mbuji-Mayi, thus marking his commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

During this 28th meeting, several strategic topics were discussed, highlighting the crucial importance of security, humanitarian and health, particularly in the East of the country. The government’s commitment to environmental protection was also highlighted, in particular through the upcoming organization in Kinshasa of the international interministerial conference on the deployment of payments for environmental services in Central Africa.

This conference is of capital importance, as it will highlight innovative initiatives aimed at promoting the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems in Central Africa. By focusing on financial incentives for the conservation and restoration of ecosystems, this international meeting aims to strengthen the governance of natural resources and promote sustainable development in the region.

In addition, the Council of Ministers also examined the changes made to the Finance Act for the 2025 financial year, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring transparent and efficient management of public resources. The issue of the revival of Sotexki and the strategic partnership between the European Union and the DRC on strategic and critical mineral substances was also discussed, highlighting the importance of international cooperation to promote sustainable and inclusive development.
