Yoann Richomme, the navigator for the Paprec Arkéa team, achieved an exceptional performance by rounding Cape Horn in ideal conditions during his participation in the Vendée Globe. This legendary moment in solo sailing around the world represents a major challenge for sailors, and Richomme made it an impressive success.

On December 24 at 00:27 (GMT+1), Richomme left behind the southern tip of the American continent, marking his passage through the third and final major cape of this legendary race. With a time of 43 days 11 hours and 25 minutes, he is a remarkable lead over the record set by Armel Le Cléac’h during the previous edition of the Vendée Globe.

In an enthusiastic message sent to the media, Richomme expressed his joy and wonder at having been able to round this emblematic cape in exceptional weather conditions. His rival, Charlie Dalin of the Macif Santé Prévoyance team, is close behind him, ensuring an intense competition for the return trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

The photos submitted show Richomme sailing under clear skies and calm seas, offering a striking contrast to the often fearsome conditions in this region. While forecasts suggest the possibility of beating the record set in 2017 by Le Cléac’h, the rivalry between Richomme and Dalin promises exciting twists and turns until the finish.

The race has already had its share of challenges, particularly for Sébastien Simon who had to deal with the breakdown of his boat, forcing navigation adjustments. Sailing solo around the world remains a grueling adventure, with sailors like Richomme and Dalin courageously overcoming the many obstacles encountered at sea.

As the competition heats up, the skippers continue to show determination and resilience, pushing their limits to achieve their ultimate goal: crossing the finish line in Les Sables-d’Olonne. The Vendée Globe remains one of the most prestigious and demanding races in the world of sailing, highlighting the talent and tenacity of the sailors involved in this extraordinary adventure.
