About two hundred and seventy young people, including individuals who had been involved in criminal acts, were apprehended in Lubumbashi during a series of operations carried out by the police and volunteers dispatched by the Haut-Katanga Provincial Government. These young people were transferred on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 to Kaniama Kasese, in the Haut-Lomami province, as part of their integration into the National Service.
This is the third wave of recruitment in just one year for the Haut-Katanga province. General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik, Commander of the National Service, stressed the importance of providing adequate supervision to these new recruits. He specified that it was not a question of rewarding delinquency, but of integrating volunteers into the National Service as part of a program currently being deployed.
The National Service plays a crucial role in the fight against urban crime by enabling the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals who have committed crimes. Through this program, former offenders can reintegrate into society as contributors to national construction.
This initiative aims not only to offer a second chance to young people in difficulty, but also to promote social cohesion and individual accountability. The reintegration of these young people into the National Service offers them the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves and contribute positively to the development of their community.
General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik stressed the importance of this rehabilitation and integration program, stating that the National Service will continue its efforts to offer young people an honorable way out.
This approach aims to transform lives, restore the dignity of individuals and promote a safer and more harmonious environment for the entire society. The National Service is thus part of an approach to preventing delinquency and promoting social inclusion.
Taking care of young people in difficulty and guiding them towards constructive activities is essential to guarantee a better future for both these individuals and the community as a whole. The National Service asserts itself as a key player in promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of young people in difficulty, thus contributing to the construction of a more united and fulfilled society.
