**Defending Food and Water Security Rights: China and Egypt Jointly Support**

China and Egypt recently reaffirmed their support for Egypt’s legitimate rights to food and water security. This support comes amid ongoing tensions between Cairo and Addis Ababa over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis.

During the strategic dialogue that concluded Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati’s visit to the Chinese capital of Beijing, a joint statement was issued by the latter and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

China confirmed its continued support for Egypt’s legitimate right to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, while rejecting any foreign interference in its internal affairs.

The two countries stressed the need to strengthen coordination to effectively implement the outcomes of the first BRICS summit after its expansion, while safeguarding the common interests of developing countries and strengthening solidarity and cooperation for the “Global South”.

In addition, they stressed the need to continue implementing cooperation mechanisms in the fields of diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, energy production, and others, to promote the construction of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and implement Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Egypt expressed its gratitude for China’s willingness to continue contributing to Egypt’s economic development and national construction, especially in the fields of joint manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, science and technology, aviation and aerospace.

By committing to upholding food and water security rights, China and Egypt are strengthening their strategic partnership, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting stability, development and international cooperation in the region.
