In the heart of Kasai province, in Tshikapa, a very important training in the field of education recently took place. The Equity and Strengthening of the Educational System Project (PERSE) organized a three-day event to train trainers in the education sector, with a particular focus on teacher recruitment and the promotion of public primary school principals. This initiative is based on the fundamental principle of merit for teacher recruitment.
Adolphe Kalala Tshilobo, an expert at PERSE Kasai, stressed the importance of this training, which brought together key players in the educational field. Participants had the opportunity to become aware of the issues and objectives of the project, but also to learn about new practices in merit-based recruitment.
Awareness-raising and training of stakeholders were the key words of these three intense days. The participation criteria were carefully selected to ensure cohesion and relevance in the discussions and learning. Participant profiles were tailored to each participant’s roles and responsibilities in implementing educational reforms.
PERSE includes seven key reforms to improve the education system, including merit-based teacher recruitment and the promotion of primary school principals. These reforms are at the heart of an approach to ensuring the quality of primary education and promoting access to education for all.
The next step will be to deploy trained individuals to the provincial subdivisions of the Kasai educational region1, in order to transmit and duplicate the knowledge acquired during this training.
This PERSE initiative illustrates the continued commitment to education and strengthening the education system in the Kasai province. It demonstrates that concrete actions are being put in place to ensure quality education and equitable access to education for all children in the region.
