The recent remarks of the Minister of State in charge of the Portfolio, Jean-Lucien Bussa, have highlighted the worrying situation of public enterprises in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, during the opening of the work of the Estates General of the State Portfolio in Kinshasa, he stressed that almost all of these companies are currently underperforming, which constitutes a serious challenge for the country.
The deep crisis affecting these entities is attributed to several factors, including mismanagement, internal rivalries and the lack of rigor on the part of the leaders. It is undeniable that concrete actions must be taken to effectively reform and revive these companies, in order to transform them into engines of economic growth and social development for the DRC.
The organization of the Estates General of the State Portfolio is therefore of capital importance in the quest for more efficient management of these entities. By bringing together experts, political representatives and sector stakeholders, this work provides an essential platform to discuss the challenges to be met and the solutions to be implemented.
To promote the revival of public enterprises in the DRC, it is imperative to address the structural problems that affect them. This requires an in-depth reform of their governance methods, by strengthening the transparency, accountability and effectiveness of decisions taken. In addition, it is crucial to invest in training and skills development for the actors involved in the management of these enterprises, in order to ensure more professional and performance-oriented management.
Finally, it is also essential to put in place rigorous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that the measures taken bear fruit and effectively contribute to the economic and social recovery of the country.
In short, the challenges facing public enterprises in the DRC are significant, but they can be addressed with determination and by implementing structural and ambitious reforms. The States General of the State portfolio constitute a valuable opportunity to initiate this process of transformation and to restore to these companies the key role that they must play in the development of the country.
