“Fatshimetrie”: Bintou Keita’s recommendations to avoid tensions during the revision of the Constitution in the DRC
The political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is once again attracting the attention of the international community, as the Head of MONUSCO, Bintou Keita, recommended the peaceful management of tensions surrounding the revision of the country’s Constitution. This recommendation came during her speech before the UN Security Council in New York.
The issues related to the constitutional revision and the different positions of political actors and civil society have raised concerns about the political future of the country. Bintou Keita called on all parties concerned to work together to prevent further tensions and ensure the stability of the country. This collaborative approach is crucial to maintain the course taken during the 2023 elections and avoid an escalation of internal conflicts.
The Head of the UN mission also stressed the importance of supporting the Congolese government’s efforts to implement the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community Recovery and Stabilization Program (PDDRCS) in the DRC. This initiative aims to promote peace and security in regions affected by the activities of armed groups such as the ADF, M23, CODECO and Zaire.
Furthermore, Bintou Keita warned of the escalation of insecurity in North Kivu and Ituri, highlighting the persistent security challenges facing the country. These recurring threats underline the importance of a comprehensive and coordinated approach to address the complexity of security issues in the DRC.
In conclusion, Bintou Keita’s recommendation for a peaceful management of political tensions and concerted action against insecurity in the DRC constitutes a call for unity and responsibility of all actors involved. The country’s peace and stability depend on the ability to overcome political differences and work together to build a better future for all Congolese.
