African youth on the front line against corruption: a challenge for a transparent future

The issue of the fight against corruption is more relevant than ever on a global scale. At the beginning of December 2024, the Commemorative Conference of the International Anti-Corruption Day, organized by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) and the Forum of African State Inspectorates and Assimilated Institutions (FIGE), opens in Kinshasa. Under the theme “Mobilizing African youth in the fight against corruption for a better tomorrow”, this meeting highlights the importance of the commitment of all stakeholders, particularly young people, in promoting probity and transparency within administrations.

During his opening speech, Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi praised the remarkable work accomplished by the inspectors general of finance in the fight against corruption and embezzlement of public funds. He stressed the importance of persevering on this path, despite the obstacles and resistance encountered. For President Tshisekedi, corruption is a scourge that undermines institutions and weakens the country’s development. He called for increased efforts to eradicate this scourge and restore trust between governments and citizens.

Furthermore, Jules Alingete Key, Inspector General of Finance, highlighted the preventive actions implemented by the Inspectorate General of Finance to combat corruption and poor governance. He notably mentioned the financial patrol, an initiative aimed at controlling public spending upstream in order to prevent embezzlement. This approach has already shown positive results in terms of reducing anti-values ​​and improving the management of public resources.

Finally, Hassan Issa Sultan, Inspector General of State of the Republic of Djibouti, praised Jules Alingete Key’s commitment to the fight against corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He stressed the importance of cooperation between African countries to effectively combat this scourge that hinders the economic and social development of the region.

In conclusion, the fight against corruption remains a major challenge for the stability and prosperity of African nations. The efforts made by the institutions and actors engaged in this fight are essential to guarantee a better future for African youth and to build more just and transparent societies.
