The Palancas Negras of Angola have once again proven their supremacy on the African handball scene by winning with authority the 26th African Handball Cup of Nations, which took place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. This team, led by talented players such as Alberta Kassoma Almeida and goalkeeper Alberto Marta, put on a high-flying performance, brilliantly winning against the formidable Lionesses of Teranga of Senegal by a score of 27 to 18.
This resounding victory confirms the status of the Angolans as the true queens of handball on the African continent. With no less than 16 trophies won in 26 editions of the AFCON, Angola sits at the top of the hierarchy of women’s handball in Africa, asserting its unchallenged dominance.
In this intense competition, each team competed in talent and determination to reach the top. Tunisia, after a remarkable performance, won the bronze medal by beating Egypt with a score of 25 to 22. A great reward for combative and passionate players who were able to surpass themselves to climb onto the podium.
The Democratic Republic of Congo, host country of this prestigious competition, can be proud of its fifth place in the ranking. Two of its players, Pina Luambo and Alexandra Lutunu Shunu, distinguished themselves by winning the titles of best left winger and best right back, thus demonstrating all their talent and commitment.
Finally, the first four teams of the CAN, namely Angola, Senegal, Tunisia and Egypt, will have the honor of representing Africa at the next World Championship scheduled for November and December 2025.
