The Bapere region, located in North Kivu, is the scene of an alarming humanitarian crisis that requires an urgent response from the authorities and humanitarian organizations. More than five thousand displaced people, who fled attacks by ADF rebels six months ago, are surviving in extremely precarious conditions, particularly in the localities of Mangurejipa, Kambau and Njiapanda. Civil society in this sector has launched an urgent appeal to the government and humanitarians for immediate assistance, stressing the urgency of the situation.
These displaced people have lost everything and find themselves homeless, without access to drinking water, medicines and sufficient food. The lack of adequate sanitation facilities exposes these vulnerable people to major health risks, with disastrous consequences. Indeed, due to the lack of latrines, many of them are forced to relieve themselves in the open air, which further aggravates their situation.
In a memorandum addressed to the governor and his partners, civil society calls for emergency measures, particularly in terms of the provision of medicines, food, temporary shelters and the construction of latrines. It is crucial to meet these basic needs to ensure the dignity and health of these displaced populations, who are currently living in inhumane conditions.
The head of the Bapere sector also called for rapid and adequate humanitarian assistance to relieve these people in distress. The humanitarian crisis facing this region requires collective mobilization and concrete action to save lives and restore a semblance of normality for these displaced populations.
In conclusion, it is imperative that the authorities and humanitarian actors implement concrete and immediate measures to meet the urgent needs of the displaced people of Bapere. The solidarity and commitment of the international community are essential to alleviate the suffering of these vulnerable populations and help them rebuild their lives with dignity.
