Book Launch of “Introduction to Comparative Lawmaking” in Abuja to Celebrate the 59th Birthday of Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
At the book launch, titled “Introduction to Comparative Lawmaking”, in Abuja to celebrate the 59th Birthday of Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), a call was made for the importance of legislative drafting in the process of transforming policies into legislative frameworks. The event brought together leading figures from the legislative, academic and political worlds to discuss the importance of laws and policies in social engineering and regulating human behaviour.
Turaki, a leading lawyer in Nigeria, stressed that legislative drafting was crucial to ensuring effective laws, governance and social development. He stressed that in a democratic system, the quality of legislative drafting has a direct impact on the effectiveness of laws, governance and social development. Well-drafted laws can address pressing national problems, promote transparency, foster justice and protect the rights of citizens. On the other hand, poorly drafted laws can lead to ambiguities, misinterpretations and inefficiencies in policy implementation.
Rep. Muktar Shagaya, Member of the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education, noted that the book was not only a valuable academic contribution to legislative development but also served as a practical guide for legislators, legal practitioners and practitioners. He commended Professor Sulaiman for his leadership and contributions to strengthening legislative capacity and democratic practices in Nigeria.
Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike, who reviewed the book, described it as a groundbreaking work, stressing its importance to legal practitioners, legislators, academics and societal stakeholders. He recommended that the electronic version of the book be made available for wider dissemination and easy access to all national and international stakeholders.
In sum, the launch of this book marks a milestone in promoting quality lawmaking in Nigeria and beyond. It underscores the critical importance of legislative drafting in creating effective, equitable and rights-respecting laws. This initiative is expected to inspire all stakeholders to pursue legislative excellence and contribute to building a robust and responsive legislative framework, based on the principles of justice, equality and good governance.
