The Investment Program for Forests and Savanna Restoration, commonly known as PIFORES, has just revealed crucial data during its recent national steering committee meeting in Kinshasa. Indeed, the annual budget allocated to the program for the 2025 financial year amounts to more than 36 million US dollars, marking an important step in the fight against deforestation and the preservation of the environment in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This colossal amount demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese authorities to protect and restore forest areas, particularly in the 7 provinces targeted by the project: Congo Central, Kwilu, Kinshasa, Kasaï, Kasaï-Central, Kasaï-Oriental and Lomami. These regions, rich in biodiversity, are essential to the preservation of the Congolese ecosystem and the quality of life of local populations.

The Secretary General for Environment and Sustainable Development, Benjamin Toiramba, highlighted the strategic importance of PIFORES in combating deforestation and improving the living conditions of forest communities. This program is part of a global financing of $300 million from the World Bank over a period of 7 years, thus demonstrating international financial support for this fundamental cause.
