A tragic fire struck the “La Compassion” orphanage in Bunia, Ituri, leaving the building reduced to ashes and endangering the lives of 73 young residents. The flames devoured the building, consuming everything in their path and leaving the children homeless. The origin of this disaster remains mysterious, giving rise to many questions and a cry of distress from the orphanage’s managers.
Fortunately, no loss of life was reported thanks to the rapid intervention of neighbors and emergency services, including fire extinguishers from the town hall and the MONUSCO fire truck. These gestures of solidarity helped prevent an even greater disaster and saved the children present in the establishment at the time of the tragedy.
Faced with this disastrous situation, reconstruction efforts and aid to the children affected must be intensified. The head of the orphanage makes a poignant appeal for the generosity and solidarity of all those who can provide concrete help.
