Fatshimetrie: The DRC Leopards women handball team in full preparation for the African Cup of Nations (CAN)
After months of intensive training and meticulous preparation, the Leopards women handball team of the Democratic Republic of Congo are now in the final stretch before the kick-off of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), which will be held from November 27 to December 7.
Under the leadership of their coaches Clément Machy and Francis Tuzolana, the team has assembled a selection of 17 players, two of whom play locally and others who play abroad, to form a competitive and united group. The objective is clear: to shine during this African competition and represent the DRC with dignity.
During a training session at the Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte in Kinshasa, the Leopards captain, Christiane Mwasesa, spoke to the press. Despite the pressure surrounding a competition of this magnitude, she showed her confidence in her team and her ambitions for the CAN. “We are at home, our preparation is going well. We are aware of the pressure, but we will do everything we can to have a great competition. We are counting on the support of the Congolese people to take us to the final and come back with the victory.”
The DRC, which is participating for the first time in its history in the women’s handball CAN, will play in Group B alongside Angola, Tunisia, Guinea, Cameroon and Uganda. A competition that will take place in the twin halls of the Stade des Martyrs de la Pentecôte, symbolizing a major event for Congolese sport.
