Fatshimetrie
Fatshimetrie, in its mission to cover the most significant events in the country and to fuel public debate in all neutrality and objectivity, took a close interest in the recommendations from the general assembly of justice that ended on November 16. These recommendations are of capital importance for the future of the judicial system and for the consolidation of the rule of law in the DRC.

One of the most discussed decisions concerns the proposal to restructure the High Council of the Judiciary. Indeed, the participants in the general assembly put forward the idea of replacing this institution with a High Council of Justice chaired by the President of the Republic or, in his absence, by the Minister of Justice. This recommendation revived the debates and provoked contrasting reactions within the magistrates’ unions.

The president of the Autonomous Union of Magistrates and Public Prosecutor expressed his dissatisfaction with these recommendations. He believes that the final report does not reflect reality and does not take into consideration the contributions of the various stakeholders during the workshops. This controversy highlights the importance of the issues related to justice reform in the DRC and highlights the divergences of points of view that persist within the judicial community.

To further shed light on these debates, Fatshimetrie has invited renowned personalities to share their analyses and points of view. Aimé Kilolo Musamba, legal expert and former counsel to the International Criminal Court, will shed light on the implications of these recommendations for the Congolese judicial system. For his part, Adelph Kabesa Kabesa, union delegate within SYNAMAC, will express the concerns and demands of magistrates regarding this reform. Finally, Aaron Mukalengi, program coordinator of the NGO Les Amis de Nelson Mandela, will provide an outside perspective on the issues of judicial reform in the DRC.

Through these discussions and in-depth analyses, Fatshimetrie is committed to offering its listeners an informed understanding of the issues and challenges facing the justice sector in the DRC. The States General of Justice laid the foundations for an essential reflection on the future of democracy and the rule of law in the country, and it is essential to continue to closely monitor the developments that will result from it.
