In a recent landmark event for the city of Beni, a dozen committed female politicians participated in an awareness-raising session to discuss their political future. This meeting, entitled “Salon des grandes dames”, was organized by the NGO Femme Congolaise pour le Développement (FECONDE), under the coordination of Julie Njila Nkuna.

The objective of this meeting, according to Julie Njila, was to accompany and support these female politicians in their efforts to make a place for themselves in the upcoming elections. The discussions focused on the current challenges of political dynamics in Beni, as well as on themes such as fundraising and the involvement of women in the Luanda peace process.

During this session, the importance of the presence and action of women in the political sphere was highlighted, as well as the obstacles they encountered during their electoral campaign. Participants also assessed the effectiveness of government actions in favor of women politicians, as well as the role of political parties in supporting them.

Julie Njila stressed that 2024 will be a pivotal year, marked by new opportunities for women politicians in Beni. By putting in place a new agenda and strengthening women’s engagement at the local and municipal levels, their election will become a tangible reality.

This initiative to raise awareness and support women politicians in Beni underlines the importance of supporting and encouraging women’s participation in political life. Indeed, diversity of voices and experiences is essential for balanced and inclusive representation in political institutions. By providing women with the necessary resources and support, it is possible to foster greater gender equality and promote a more representative and participatory democracy.
