Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently attended the inauguration of the bus production plant of the Nasr Automobile Company, a public sector company. This plant, which had been idle for about 15 years, today confirms its revival and its determination to contribute to the Egyptian automotive industry.
Under the leadership of Khaled Shadeed, General Manager of the Nasr Automobile Company, the company outlines its future vision focused on the optimal use of all its plants, their integration into the production cycle and investment in various supporting industries to boost growth and deepen industrialization.
This ambitious vision includes product diversification to include light transportation, golf carts and electric tuk-tuks, as well as optimizing the use of the company’s free zone to facilitate and accelerate logistics operations.
A joint-stock company was established between Nasr Automobile Company, Singaporean-Taiwanese company “Tron Technology” and the Emirati company “Euro Transit”, with the aim of manufacturing the first electric minibus (24 seats) for urban and tourist services.
The production capacity is expected to reach 300 buses in 2026. In addition, an electric battery production line with a capacity of 600 batteries in 2026 will be set up.
Production is expected to start in mid-2024 and reach 1,500 buses annually by 2027, with a local component rate of 50% in the first phase, gradually increasing to 60-70%.
This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and attract more foreign investment to the country.
Nasr Automobile Company, established in 1959 as Egypt’s first automobile manufacturer, has played a crucial role in supporting the national industry.
Occupying a vast area of approximately 900,000 square meters in the Wadi Huf area of Helwan, the company has 9 factories.
After being liquidated in 2009 and then reestablished in 2017, the modernization of its production lines has injected new momentum into the company, which is now preparing to embark on a new era of advanced production, aligned with Egypt’s sustainable development goals and future industrial vision.
The company also plans to export its products to several Arab countries, contributing to regional economic growth. The inauguration of this electric bus manufacturing plant marks a significant turning point for the Egyptian automotive industry and the national economy as a whole..
