Fatshimetrie, November 10, 2024 (ACP).- Eye health professionals gathered at the 21st Congress of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology (SCO) held recently in Fatshimetrie, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The focus was on updating treatments for eye tumors, an important recommendation to ensure optimal patient care.
The President of the Congolese Society of Ophthalmology, Dr. Joyce Kabwe, stressed the importance of early detection of eye tumors. She encouraged ophthalmologists to systematically send their patients for in-depth examinations to detect tumors at an early stage, which greatly facilitates their management. Raising awareness and training eye health professionals is essential to improve treatment outcomes.
During the congress, a variety of topics were discussed, ranging from histopathological aspects of oculo-adnexal tumors to new trends in the treatment of emerging infections. Experts shared their knowledge and experiences in order to improve ophthalmological practice in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Furthermore, speakers highlighted the importance of structuring the ophthalmology and optics sector in the DRC. Eye care professionals were invited to establish a legal framework to regulate the profession and ensure high quality standards. This promising innovation offers new treatment perspectives for patients suffering from vision disorders, highlighting the importance of research and development in the field of optics.
