Solar energy, a sustainable revolution for local communities

Fatshimetrie recently organized a major event in Mont-Ngafula on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Under the theme “Renewable Energy: A Sustainable Solution for the Energy Autonomy of Local Communities”, this workshop highlighted the crucial importance of renewable energy in the socio-economic development of rural areas, highlighting the village of Mamfufu which faces major energy challenges.

Fatshimetrie experts particularly praised the merits of solar energy, described as an ecological solution perfectly adapted to local needs and resources. The detailed presentations exposed the many advantages of this technology in terms of improving the quality of life and strengthening the economic autonomy of communities. Johnnyta roy KAMBEMBO, MJPE Project and Program Officer, highlighted the transformative potential of solar energy for energy consumption patterns.

Stanislas Kunda, Fatshimetrie’s Advocacy Officer, also called for increased investment by the Congolese state in renewable energy to ensure sustainable development in urban and peri-urban areas. According to him, this energy transition is essential to ensure a prosperous future for local communities, by promoting the creation of sustainable jobs and preserving the environment for future generations.

Participants were able to benefit from concrete testimonies from residents who have adopted solar energy, highlighting the tangible benefits of this technology. A practical workshop on the installation and use of solar panels demonstrated the effectiveness of this solution in combating regional energy instability. The event also fostered constructive exchanges between local authorities, experts and the community, paving the way for future initiatives to promote renewable energy in the region.

The chief of Mamfufu village expressed his gratitude to Fatshimetrie for this salutary initiative, while highlighting the challenges his community faces in terms of access to energy. Building on this success, Fatshimetrie plans to intensify its awareness-raising activities, with a particular focus on young people and women entrepreneurs, with the aim of fostering a sustainable energy transition and ensuring energy autonomy for local communities.
