### Holistic care for survivors of gender-based violence: a step towards healing in Bunia
For years, Bunia, the capital of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been the scene of gender-based violence (GBV) that has deeply affected the local population. However, in the midst of this turmoil, a glimmer of hope shines for survivors thanks to the commendable initiative of the NGO “Female Solidarity for Peace and Development (Sofepadi)” and its Karibuni wa mama clinic.
Julienne Lusenge, President of Sofepadi, recently spoke during a morning of discussions at the Turkish Embassy in Kinshasa, highlighting the crucial work carried out by her NGO. She shared the reintegration programs for GBV survivors, as well as the project to build an orphanage in Beni, emphasizing the importance of a holistic and free approach to accompany these traumatized people towards healing.
During this meeting, a poignant testimony was shared, highlighting the story of a survivor who, at the age of 15, found essential support from Sofepadi after experiencing a traumatic rape. This moving story is a reminder of the positive and lasting impact of comprehensive care adapted to the needs of GBV victims.
The work of Sofepadi and its partners is an inspiring example of solidarity and commitment to survivors of gender-based violence. By offering holistic assistance and working towards their social reintegration, the organization contributes to restoring the dignity and confidence of victims, while laying the foundations for a more inclusive and caring society.
In conclusion, the holistic care of GBV survivors in Bunia is a significant step towards individual and collective reconstruction. It is by supporting these initiatives and raising public awareness of the importance of such actions that we can truly aspire to a future where gender-based violence will no longer have a place.
