Strengthening molecular biology for health innovation in the DRC

Molecular biology occupies a central place in the health field in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as evidenced by the launch of a training seminar in Fatshimétrie. This initiative, the result of a collaboration between the INRB and the Institute of Tropical Medicine, aims to strengthen the skills of health professionals in this constantly evolving field. The seminar offers a learning and exchange platform to explore the applications of molecular biology in medical research. Despite the logistical challenges, Congolese health authorities are committed to supporting scientific research and promoting innovation by providing learning opportunities for health professionals. Fatshimétrie, November 4, 2024 – Molecular biology is at the heart of the growing interest of health professionals in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, the first edition of the training seminar was recently launched in Fatshimétrie, the capital of the country. This initiative stems from a partnership between the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) and the Institute of Tropical Medicine, aimed at strengthening the skills of health actors in this field.

The coordinator of the One Health platform, Justin Masumu, stressed the importance of this training to enable participants to familiarize themselves with molecular biology techniques and explore their application in research. As molecular biology evolves rapidly, it is essential for health professionals in the DRC to stay up to date and master these advanced techniques.

This seminar provides a learning and exchange platform for participants, thus promoting the strengthening of research and innovation capacities in biomedical matters. The objective is to encourage scientists and researchers to conduct cutting-edge research and develop new approaches in the field of molecular biology.

Justin Masumu highlighted the challenges of importing the equipment needed to carry out this research, but stated that the objective is to support participants in acquiring the tools and resources needed to advance in this promising field.

More than just training, this event is part of an approach to strengthening the skills of health professionals in the DRC. Since the first introductory sessions on molecular biology in 2017, the INRB has worked to provide learning opportunities for researchers, doctoral students and master’s students, in order to familiarize them with the basics of this discipline.

This new edition of the molecular biology training seminar demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese health authorities to support scientific research and promote innovation in the health sector. By providing health professionals with tools and in-depth knowledge in this field, the DRC is strengthening its position as a major player in the biomedical field in Africa.
