Fatshimétrie, October 27, 2024 – Young people from the N’sele commune in Kinshasa are mobilizing against bullying in schools. Last Saturday, 120 young people participated in an awareness-raising conference organized by Julie Pangu Pangu, founder of the association “Julie Pangu Pangu Asbl”.
The objective of this initiative was to encourage students, parents and education professionals to fight together against all forms of bullying at school. Julie Pangu Pangu stressed the importance of creating a team spirit to allow victims to express themselves and to raise awareness among education stakeholders of their responsibility in preventing bullying.
There are many signs of bullying in children: silence, changes in behavior, withdrawal, and decline in academic performance. It is essential that education professionals instill notions of civic-mindedness in students and pay attention to children’s behavior to detect possible cases of bullying.
Me Sacré Pangu Sikatenda, speaking at the conference, stressed the importance of increased monitoring by parents and education professionals to prevent bullying. Communication between all stakeholders and collaboration are essential to ensure a safe and conducive school environment for learning.
The conference, under the theme “School bullying: issues and consequences on psychosocial values and academic success”, highlighted the need to mobilize the entire educational community to fight against this scourge and ensure a respectful and caring educational environment.
By strengthening awareness, prevention and responsiveness to bullying, the young people of N’sele show the importance of uniting to build a healthy school environment where every child feels safe and respected. This initiative demonstrates the commitment of Congolese youth to an inclusive and caring education, where everyone has their place and can flourish fully.
