Fatshimetrie, October 26, 2024 – The Belgian media landscape recently experienced a major event with the creation of the Association of Congolese Journalists of Belgium (AJCB). During a Constitutive Assembly held in Brussels, a provisional committee was set up to draft the statutes and internal regulations of this new entity.
Under the leadership of Cornelis Nlandu, provisional coordinator of the AJCB, a committee composed of three key members was formed to oversee the drafting of the founding documents. These members, namely Cornelis Nlandu of the Congolese Press Agency (ACP), Lolita Kaya of the Congolese National Radio and Television (RTNC) and Babi Balukuna of “B Cube TV”, are tasked with laying the solid foundations of this association.
According to Nlandu, this initiative was more than necessary, because until now, Congolese journalists in Belgium were operating in a dispersed manner. The AJCB therefore aims to be a place for exchange, professional regulation and the defense of the interests of its members. By bringing together fifteen Congolese journalists present in Belgium, from the written, audiovisual and online media, this assembly constitutes an important first step towards closer collaboration within the Congolese journalistic community.
Among the participants in this Constitutive Assembly, it is worth noting the remarkable presence of Roger Mazanza Kindulu, Director of the ACP/Brussels. His support and that of the other journalists show the enthusiasm and determination of the profession to unite and structure itself to better meet current challenges.
This initiative therefore marks a turning point in the history of Congolese journalists in Belgium, offering new perspectives and enriching opportunities for collaboration. The AJCB is announced as a key player in promoting journalistic excellence and strengthening the presence of the Congolese community in the Belgian media landscape.
