In the heart of Tanganyika province, in Kalemie, a milestone took place on October 23 with the inauguration of the Police Training School. This ceremony, presided over by the interim governor of the region, symbolized a significant step in strengthening the capacities of local law enforcement.
The result of international collaboration, the construction of this modern infrastructure was carried out by the International Organization for Migration, with financial support from the Japanese government via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This initiative aims to fill the security vacuum left by the departure of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
This school represents much more than just a building, it is a symbol of the desire to strengthen ties between the police and the local population. The Commissioner General of the Congolese National Police, Benjamin Alongabony, stressed the importance of close collaboration between law enforcement and communities to ensure long-term security and peace.
Furthermore, the official launch of the community policing training, which brought together 150 elements, demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese authorities to improve the skills of law enforcement and strengthen their effectiveness on the ground.
Cyriaque Ntirendikura, representative of the IOM Chief of Mission in the DRC, stressed that the training of police forces and the construction of modern infrastructure are key elements in consolidating security and peace in the region. In partnership with the Government of Japan, the Government of the United States and other international bodies, IOM is committed to supporting the Congolese authorities in this essential approach.
