The Syndicate Dynamics of Nurses of Congo (DYSICO) recently took legal action to denounce the dispossession of its concession in Kinshasa. This strong gesture was decided during the extraordinary general assembly held by DYSICO members. The situation concerns a concession located in the Buma district, in the commune of N’sele, and the controversy is linked to a customary chief who refuses to respond to legal requests.
Geneviève Betubaseya, Secretary General of DYSICO, clearly expressed the union’s position by calling on the authorities to intervene to restore justice and return the concession in question to their rightful ownership. She also issued an appeal to people who have acquired land in this area to suspend their construction projects pending the outcome of the dispute. This case takes on a particular dimension given the importance of the heritage at stake and the legacy that must be preserved for future generations.
A nurse from Kinshasa testified to the difficult situation in which DYSICO members find themselves, hoping for effective intervention by the authorities to protect their legitimate rights. He stressed the importance of the good faith of the authorities to ensure justice and fairness in this case. Despite Radio Okapi’s attempts to obtain the reaction of the accused customary chief, he has not yet responded to the accusations made against him.
This case highlights the challenges faced by health sector workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who are confronted with unfair obstacles in the protection of their fundamental rights. DYSICO sets an example of determination and courage by taking legal action to defend its interests and those of its members. Let us hope that this approach will lead to a fair and equitable resolution of this property conflict and the preservation of the legitimate rights of Congolese nurses.
