Fatshimetrie, October 20, 2024 – District 12 of the commune of N’djili in Kinshasa is facing a recurring problem after torrential rains: flooding. To remedy this situation, the head of street Kutu deux (2) made an urgent request for the cleaning of the Nsanga River, the only solution to guarantee the tranquility of the inhabitants following the torrential rainfall.
According to Huguette Luke, the Nsanga River has lost depth due to the deposit of sand carried by rainwater and waste from neighboring homes. This accumulation causes flooding that disrupts the daily lives of local residents. Thus, cleaning the river has become imperative to avoid these recurring inconveniences.
Furthermore, in the commune of Masina, the head of the Matadi district, Mr. Hilaire Kilembe, recommends the construction of soakaways in each plot to effectively drain rainwater. According to him, this individual initiative would limit the risks of flooding and preserve the local environment. He also emphasizes the importance of respecting urbanization standards when building homes in order to minimize negative impacts on the environment.
This citizen initiative emphasizes the importance of raising awareness and involving the population in preserving their environment. By taking simple measures such as cleaning rivers and building soakaways, residents can actively contribute to preventing floods and protecting their neighborhood. It is up to everyone to become aware of their individual responsibility in preserving the common environment.
In short, cleaning the Nsanga River and building soakaways show that simple and effective solutions exist to address flooding problems and preserving the environment. These local and citizen actions are essential to guaranteeing a healthy and secure living environment for the entire population.
