Celebration of Retired Generals of the Nigerian Army: A Moving Parade at the School of Artillery

This past Thursday, a moving ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA) in Kachia, Kaduna State. Fifteen retired artillery generals were honoured at a parade marking the end of their long service in the country’s armed forces. Among the gallant servicemen were eleven Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, all of whom dedicated a large part of their lives to serving and protecting their nation.

Major General James Myam (retd), speaking on behalf of his comrades-in-arms, shared poignant reflections on their military journeys, expressing gratitude and satisfaction. He noted that their success was the fruit of divine grace, acknowledging God’s protection throughout their years of service. General Myam also thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve, while expressing gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, wishing him strength and wisdom in his continued leadership of the Nigerian Army.

Recalling the beginning of their military journey when they entered the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna as cadets, Major General Myam gave valuable advice to the serving officers, urging them to remain loyal to the Constitution and the democratically elected government, while maintaining constant vigilance and security awareness.

He also expressed deep appreciation to the families, spouses, friends, instructors and mentors who supported them throughout their careers. The event was attended by several former and current high-ranking officers, including the former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Alwali Kazir (retd).

The ceremony was an opportunity to celebrate the dedication, courage and sacrifice of these retired generals, while highlighting the importance of their service to the security and defence of the nation. Their legacy of leadership and integrity will continue to inspire future generations of Nigerian military personnel to serve with honour and dedication.
