Kinshasa, October 18, 2024 – Meeting for two days in Kinshasa, representatives of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR) signed a military cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening security ties and revitalizing their respective armies. This joint commission, set up following the signing of this agreement, aims to coordinate and evaluate the actions to be undertaken by the two countries.
During this meeting, chaired by Me Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita and Rameaux Claude Bireau, respectively Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense and Veterans of the DRC, and Minister of Defense and Army Reconstruction of the CAR, important recommendations were made. In particular, it was agreed to organize a subsequent meeting to discuss topics of common interest in more depth.
A major point was raised concerning the training of Central African officers in the DRC, praised for its quality. Both parties expressed their willingness to continue these training activities, while considering other forms of cooperation in the military field.
The security aspect was not left out during these discussions. The experts, in collaboration with the governors of the provinces concerned, recommended the promotion of a permanent dialogue between the political-administrative and customary authorities in order to strengthen surveillance mechanisms along the common borders.
This meeting brought together senior military authorities, all sharing the commitment to enhanced cooperation and increased security in the region. The Vice-Minister of Defense, Samy Adubango, the Special Advisor to the Head of State on Security, Professor Esambo, as well as the Chief of General Staff of the FARDC, Christian Tshiwewe, expressed their support for these cooperation initiatives.
As a gesture of fraternity and cooperation, the ceremony ended with the exchange of gifts between the Deputy Prime Minister, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, and his Central African counterpart, Rameaux Claude Bireau.
This joint initiative between the DRC and the CAR marks a significant step forward in the consolidation of military cooperation ties between the two countries, and demonstrates their common desire to strengthen security and stability in the region.
