In the heart of Greater Bandundu, in the Kwilu province, a major operation called “Ngemba” is underway. Launched by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), this initiative aims to restore peace and security in the region by neutralizing the armed groups that are sowing terror among the local populations. One of the recent advances in this operation was the capture of two Mobondo militiamen in the Wamba sector, located in the Bagata territory.
Military authorities stated that during this operation, three homemade weapons, ammunition and other military equipment were seized. An army spokesperson stressed the importance of bringing the captured militiamen to military justice to answer for their actions. This determination displayed by the FARDC demonstrates their commitment to eradicating the armed groups that are disrupting the stability of the region.
Clashes between the army and Mobondo militias have intensified in the neighboring Kwamouth territory, marked by endemic violence. During recent clashes, at least four militias were killed and an AK47-type weapon was recovered by security forces. Unfortunately, one soldier was injured during these operations, highlighting the risks faced by the forces engaged on the ground.
This new phase of Operation Ngemba highlights the security challenges facing the Greater Bandundu region. As the FARDC advances in its fight against armed groups, it is essential to emphasize the importance of rebuilding relationships of trust with local populations to ensure lasting peace. By working together, military and civilian authorities will be able to meet the challenge of security and stability in this crucial region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
