The crucial importance of social security for state civil servants in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The field of Social Security is an important issue, particularly for State public officials, because it guarantees social protection and benefits in case of need. Recently, an unprecedented conference was held at the initiative of the circle of students in management sciences, in partnership with experts from the National Social Security Fund for State Public Officials (Cnssap) on the theme: “Analysis of Social Security reforms and their impact on State public officials”.

At the heart of this conference, Mélissa Kalenga, head of the registration and recovery department at the Cnssap, described the crucial mission of the institution, which consists of ensuring the affiliation of public officials by registering them on the list of social security beneficiaries, collecting social security contributions and providing benefits. An essential step to guarantee social protection equivalent to that of private sector workers, in accordance with the law in force.

Déborah Ngoma, Head of the Occupational Risk Department, elaborated on the occupational risk branch, highlighting the importance of health and safety at work. These aspects, highlighted by international organizations such as the International Labor Organization (ILO), are essential for the well-being of workers. Indeed, the figures put forward by the ILO are alarming, with millions of work-related deaths and illnesses each year worldwide.

In response to these challenges, the Congolese State has set up a specific branch of Social Security dedicated to occupational risks, in order to guarantee public employees benefits in the event of an accident at work. Jonathan Kinoka, Head of the Benefits Department at Cnssap, stressed the importance of this structure in the management of social benefits, covering pensions, occupational risks and family benefits.

In short, this conference highlighted the crucial importance of Social Security for State public employees, emphasizing the need for constant adaptations and reforms to meet the needs of workers. Social protection and occupational safety play a decisive role in the well-being of individuals, as well as in the overall productivity of society. This dialogue between experts and students offers an enriching vision on the current challenges and the prospects for the evolution of Social Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
