Education of Congolese girls: a step towards gender equality

Fatshimetrie, October 8, 2024 – Gender equality and girls’ education are crucial issues in modern society, and a recent initiative in the Democratic Republic of Congo highlights the importance of these issues. Indeed, the National Minister of Gender, Family and Children had the opportunity to receive a delegation announcing the awarding of sixty scholarships to the winners of the “Mathematics for Women” competition. This announcement was made in a climate of recognition and support for the talented young girls involved in this innovative program.

Godé Kayembe, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the project, enthusiastically expressed the generous gesture of the communications company offering these scholarships. These awards aim to encourage young girls to invest more in scientific fields, in this case mathematics, and to open doors to a promising future for them. The Minister of Gender, Family and Children, Léonie Kandolo Omoyi, was receptive to this commendable initiative, emphasizing the value of education and the empowerment of women in Congolese society.

Furthermore, beyond this scholarship award, the initiator of the project, Ms. Esther Kay, actively encouraged young girls to participate in this competition, highlighting the importance of academic training for their emancipation. The collaboration with the University of Science and Technology (USCITEC), a Congolese-Canadian institution, offers the winners an exceptional opportunity to pursue quality higher education and prepare for rewarding careers in the field of mathematics.

This exemplary approach to educating young girls in mathematics is a significant step towards a more just and egalitarian society, where everyone has the opportunity to develop their potential. Through these initiatives, a whole network of committed actors, such as the Association of Police Wives for Development (AEPD), are supporting the progress and development of young Congolese women.

In conclusion, the awarding of these sixty scholarships marks a strong commitment to the education of Congolese women and underlines the importance of their place in building a prosperous future for the entire society. It is by investing in young people, especially girls, that we build the foundations of a resilient and prosperous nation, where talent and equality have their place.
