General Fabien Dunia Kashindi, Commander of the 22nd Rapid Reaction Brigade and Military Operations “Usalama” in Tanganyika Province, recently called for close collaboration between the armed forces and the media to counter the spread of false information, particularly on social media. During a meeting with the press at the headquarters in Kalemie, the provincial capital, he stressed the crucial importance of disseminating accurate, reliable and balanced information to ensure the security of all.
Faced with incidents of insecurity and banditry in Kalemie that have disturbed the peace of the inhabitants, General Kashindi was particularly touched by the recent reported killings. He affirmed the commitment of the armed forces to put an end to these pockets of insecurity, encouraging the population to collaborate to identify and stop those responsible for these disturbances.
Despite these challenges, the commander also reassured the population by stating that the security situation remains relatively calm in the province. He stressed the need for cooperation from the locals to strengthen efforts to combat insecurity. Furthermore, regarding the incursion of the Bishambuke armed group into Zongwe village, located about 40 kilometers from Kalemie, General Kashindi stated that loyalist forces had regained control of the situation.
In a context where disinformation can compromise both stability and the image of the military institution, it is crucial that the media play a crucial role in disseminating verified information. This close collaboration between law enforcement and journalists is essential to ensure effective and transparent communication on security matters.
Ultimately, the cooperation of the population is essential to address security challenges and ensure the tranquility of all. General Kashindi’s call for vigilance in the face of unofficial sources of information and trust in formal communication channels underscores the importance of shared responsibility in preserving peace and security.
