Fatshimetrie October 1, 2024. On this day, a new milestone was reached in the automotive industry sector, with the visit of the Congolese Head of State to a Hungarian factory. The latter had the opportunity to discover with his own eyes the Continental Automotive Hungary Kft factory, specialized in the manufacture of electronic components for the automotive industry.
This Hungarian company, which has no less than seven factories, a tire trading center, a logistics center and an artificial intelligence center, employs approximately 8,000 people, including a large number of salaried workers. President Tshisekedi’s visit thus offers a concrete overview of the technological advances and opportunities offered by the automotive industry sector in Hungary.
A crucial aspect of this visit lies in the potential for collaboration between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Hungary. Indeed, the DRC, with a significant cobalt reserve, aims to establish itself in the technology sector, particularly in the value chain of the battery manufacturing industry for electric vehicles. This close synergy between the two countries paves the way for fruitful partnerships and beneficial exchanges for both economies.
Beyond the economic aspect, President Tshisekedi’s visit was also marked by a warm exchange with the Congolese community living in Hungary. A minute of silence was observed in tribute to Mutombo Dikembe, an illustrious Congolese basketball player who recently passed away. This moment of reflection illustrates the solidarity and unity of the Congolese throughout the world, as well as the importance of the ties that unite them beyond borders.
At the same time, fruitful discussions took place with Hungarian businessmen and a representative of an investment bank, thus paving the way for new investment opportunities in the DRC. This meeting highlights the country’s growing attractiveness to foreign investors and the Congolese government’s desire to foster a business-friendly climate.
This 72-hour official visit to Budapest was also marked by high-level meetings, including a one-on-one with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Strong commitments were made to strengthen bilateral relations between the DRC and Hungary, demonstrating a mutual desire for cooperation and a win-win partnership.
In short, President Tshisekedi’s visit to Hungary was an opportunity to highlight opportunities for collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the automotive and renewable energy sectors. This meeting marks an important step towards a promising future, based on cooperation and knowledge sharing for sustainable and inclusive development.
