During the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati strongly condemned the Israeli aggression in Lebanon. The speech delivered by the minister stated that Cairo strongly disapproves of this attack, calling it a flagrant violation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Lebanon.

The minister stressed that Israel’s brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip for almost a year and the ongoing aggression in the West Bank constitute an indelible stain on the forehead of the international community and its institutions. He deplored the fact that these aggressions persist without the international community taking the necessary measures to stop them.

Abdel-Ati added that Egypt strongly condemns this dangerous Israeli escalation that knows no limits and is leading the region to the brink. He stressed that the top priority at the moment is to immediately, definitively and unconditionally stop the bloodshed, and to firmly oppose any attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause through policies of displacement or population replacement.

The Minister also stressed the paramount importance of full and unconditional access to humanitarian and medical aid for the defenseless civilian population in the Gaza Strip. He recalled that Egypt has made intense efforts to play a mediating role with Qatar and the United States to resolve the conflict, but Israel has obstructed these efforts for several months.

In addition, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed that his country will continue to assume its responsibilities in the humanitarian response to the crises affecting its region, which led Egypt to become the third country in the world in terms of asylum applications in 2023. However, he stressed that there are limits to the burdens that Egypt can bear.

Therefore, the international community has a clear responsibility to provide full support to fill the financial gaps and mobilize the necessary resources to meet the needs of humanitarian operations and the demands of refugees from countries in conflict.

In his clear and direct message to the international community, Minister Abdel-Ati highlighted the critical issues of the situation in the Middle East and called for collective and swift action to put an end to the aggression and the suffering of the affected populations. His call for unity and international solidarity resonates as an urgent warning in the face of a humanitarian crisis that cannot be ignored.
