Urgent rehabilitation of National Road 4 for the pilgrimage in homage to Anuarité Nengapeta

Fatshimetrie, September 28, 2024 – An urgent appeal from a religious structure was recently launched to the Minister of State in charge of Infrastructure and Public Works of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, the National Steering Committee of the Blessed Year Anuarité Nengapeta (COPIANN) requested the rehabilitation of National Road 4 in its section connecting Kisangani to Isiro, via Wamba, in the Northeast of the country.

This request comes in the context of preparations for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the disappearance of Anuarité Nengapeta, an important event for the Catholic community. Indeed, a pilgrimage is planned for the end of November 2024, bringing together faithful from all over the world and having to travel nearly 600 kilometers of this road to participate in this major event.

National MP Geneviève Inagosi, member of COPIANN, insists on the urgency of the rehabilitation of the RN4 in order to guarantee optimal travel conditions for pilgrimage participants. She also stresses the need to develop the site that will host this event that is both religious and national, calling for the involvement of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works.

Faced with this legitimate request, the Minister of ITPR, Alexis Gisaro, has undertaken to examine the feasibility of the rehabilitation work as soon as possible. He recognizes the importance of this road for the success of the pilgrimage and is committed to finding urgent solutions to allow the faithful to travel safely to the places of commemoration.

This request highlights the importance of road infrastructure in the organization of large-scale events and underlines the need to invest in the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads to ensure the mobility and safety of citizens. The Congolese government will therefore have to take these specific needs into account in order to meet the legitimate expectations of the different communities, religious or not, who rely on quality infrastructure to celebrate their events and come together in peace and security.
