Ambitious projects to modernize Kasai-Oriental

Fatshimetrie, the reference media to stay informed of the latest news, reveals today the ambitious projects that are taking shape in Kasaï-Oriental, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In an effort to improve road infrastructure, a commission was set up to study the size of National Road Number 1 (RN1) in Mbuji-Mayi. The provincial governor, Jean-Paul Mbwebua Kapo, expressed the need to maintain the four lanes of the RN1 throughout its entire crossing, from Kalala wa Nkata to the Lubilanji bridge. Indeed, the narrowing of the road at this location is a source of accidents and it is essential to anticipate future road traffic needs.

The provincial authorities have entered into discussions with the key stakeholders in the project, including the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT), the Roads Office (OVD) and the provincial land registry and urban planning divisions. The aim is to ensure that the recommendations made at previous meetings are taken into account. The Agence des grands travaux confirmed that the Office des routes and the OVD are committed to the project as requested by the governor, and that any changes to the contract will have to be validated by the latter.

In addition, another major project is looming in the Mbuji-Mayi region: the construction of a new prison. The Zengwei company has been mandated to carry out the studies for this project. This initiative aims to relocate the Mbuji-Mayi Central Prison, which is currently overcrowded, to a modern and functional facility. Governor Jean-Paul Mbuebua Kapo welcomed this project, stressing its importance in the context of the reforms of the penitentiary system initiated by the Minister of State, Constant Mutamba Tungunga.

In short, these projects demonstrate the desire of local authorities to improve road and prison infrastructure in the Kasaï-Oriental province. They are part of a process of modernization and response to the growing needs of the population. Fatshimetrie will continue to closely monitor the progress of these projects and will keep you informed of future progress.
