Urban development in Egypt: towards a sustainable transformation of cities

Fatshimetrie, an internationally renowned magazine, echoes the speech of the Minister of Housing, Sherif al-Sherbini, at the Egypt Builders Forum. During this event, which took place on September 22, 2024, the minister stressed that the state has placed urban development at the top of its priorities within the framework of Egypt Vision 2030. This ambitious vision aims to improve the living conditions of citizens, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals calling for making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Sherif al-Sherbini highlighted the state’s achievements in development projects in the field of housing, including the rehabilitation of unsafe areas, the creation of new cities and the implementation of drinking water and sanitation projects.

In a context of increased cooperation with African countries, several cooperation protocols were signed this year in the field of housing. The Minister also invited private companies operating in urban development to participate in the World Urban Forum and to engage alongside the State in the projects of the New Republic.

This urban development dynamic is part of a global drive aimed at transforming urban landscapes, promoting sustainable lifestyles and providing adequate housing opportunities to all citizens. Egypt, driven by its Vision 2030, is positioning itself as a major player in promoting inclusive, safe and sustainable cities, while engaging in a regional and international cooperation approach.

The initiative launched by Sherif al-Sherbini and his team demonstrates Egypt’s continued commitment to sustainable urban development and improving the living conditions of its citizens. The challenges remain numerous, but with a clear vision and strong political will, Egypt is positioning itself as an example to follow in terms of urban planning and sustainable development.
