The mystery of the halt in road modernization works in Kinshasa: MP Eyanga Mboyo demands explanations

In the city of Kinshasa, Kulumba Avenue in Limete and the Renaissance Road in Kisenso are at the heart of the concerns of national MP Venance Eyanga Mboyo. Elected from the Mont-Amba constituency, he sent a written question to the Minister of State for Infrastructure and Public Works to shed light on the mystery surrounding the abrupt halt to modernization work on these two major roads.

Kulumba Avenue, a modernization initiative launched at the end of December 2022, aims to relieve congestion on Lumumba Boulevard, a busy road in the Congolese capital. This avenue, linking Siforco Avenue to Heavy Goods Avenue in Limite, is essential to facilitate rapid access to Ndjili International Airport in N’sele. However, work was inexplicably interrupted, leaving residents and users uncertain about when construction work would resume.

On the other hand, the Renaissance Road, linking Kisenso to Lemba via the University of Kinshasa, was also the victim of this work stoppage. This road, started in 2020, is crucial for the flow of traffic and the mobility of residents. Unfortunately, the construction sites have come to a standstill, leaving open erosion heads and eroded plots of land, endangering the lives of local populations, especially with the imminent return of the rainy season.

These situations legitimately raise the concern of MP Eyanga Mboyo, who insists on the importance of these roads for the development of the region and the well-being of residents. He stresses the urgent need for transparency as to the reasons for this abrupt stoppage of work, highlighting the harmful consequences that this could have on the daily lives of citizens.

Ultimately, it is imperative that the competent authorities provide clear and coherent explanations on the status of the modernization works on Kulumba Avenue and the Renaissance Road. The safety and quality of life of the people of Kinshasa depend in part on the good management and efficient implementation of these projects, which are essential for the future of the region. MP Eyanga Mboyo is right to raise these crucial questions and it is essential that concrete answers be provided quickly for the good of all.
