Towards a renewed education for the Democratic Republic of Congo: key recommendations from the Joint Review of Education and Training

Fatshimetrie, September 20, 2024 – The recent work of the Joint Review of Education and Training that took place in Kinshasa gave rise to crucial recommendations for the future of education in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The participants, gathered around the question of developing a transitional education and training strategy for the period 2026-2030, stressed the importance of a clear roadmap to guide future actions.

In a context marked by uncertainties and challenges, the establishment of a transitional education plan appears to be a necessity. This plan would make it possible to stay on course for long-term educational objectives, while adapting to the realities on the ground and the needs of Congolese students. Valère Munsia, coordinator of the Permanent Secretariat for Support and Coordination of the Education Sector, stressed the importance of this approach to ensure the continuity of educational progress in the country.

Minister of State Raïssa Malu Dinanga closed the meeting by highlighting the active participation and valuable contributions of the delegates. She welcomed the constructive discussions that took place during these four days of reflection and stressed the importance of the recommendations that resulted from them. She also recalled the commitment of the Congolese government to education, under the leadership of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.

The discussions allowed participants to review the progress made under the Education and Training Sector Strategy 2026-2025, while identifying persistent challenges. This collective reflection made it possible to develop a clear vision for the future and renew commitments to quality education for all Congolese children.

Valère Munsya stressed that the participants contributed in a modest but significant way to the transformation of the Congolese education system, a goal dear to President Tshisekedi. He called for greater ambition and boldness from the government and its partners to achieve this ambition.

The next steps will consist of an in-depth examination of the recommendations from this joint review, with a view to transforming them into concrete measures to improve the Congolese education system. The objective is to submit these proposals to the Ministers of Education for effective and rapid implementation.

In conclusion, this work of the Joint Review of Education and Training has made it possible to lay the foundations for an essential transitional strategy for the future of education in the DRC. It has also demonstrated the commitment and determination of education sector stakeholders to advance the Congolese education system towards greater excellence and equity.
