Fight against polio: a decisive vaccination campaign in Tshopo province

In the heart of Tshopo province, a vast vaccination campaign is mobilizing everyone’s efforts and attention. From September 19 to 21, no fewer than 927,162 children aged 0 to 59 months will be affected by this crucial initiative to fight polio. Led by local authorities and supported by renowned international partners such as UNICEF, WHO and GAVI, this campaign aims to stem the spread of this devastating disease.

The governor of the province, Paulin Lendongolia, officially launched this mobilization in Kisangani, emphasizing the crucial importance of vaccination for the health and well-being of children. This action is being deployed in 17 of the 23 health zones in Tshopo, as well as in 5 other health zones in the neighboring province of Maniema.

The acting provincial Minister of Health, Simon Simbo, strongly encourages parents to welcome the vaccination teams that will go door to door to protect children from polio. Reinforced organizational and supervision measures have been put in place to ensure the success of this major campaign.

For the head of the UNICEF office in Kisangani, Moctar Hann, this campaign is essential to guarantee increased protection for children who have not or have not been sufficiently vaccinated. He emphasizes that collective mobilization is essential to achieve vaccination targets and stem the spread of polio in the region. Significant funds and resources have been deployed to effectively support this initiative.

By achieving broad vaccination coverage and raising awareness among populations about the importance of vaccination, the campaign underway in Tshopo province promises to be a real bulwark against the disease. The coming weeks will be crucial to reverse the trend and provide lasting protection to children. The health of the population, and particularly of the youngest, is a major issue which requires collective mobilization and unwavering commitment.
