Strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the DRC: a step towards better governance in Africa

Parliamentary cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo reflects a mutual desire to exchange experiences and strengthen ties between the two nations. During the recent parliamentary session at the Palais du Peuple in Kinshasa, the President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, shared his parliamentary expertise with his Congolese counterparts.

This initiative, initiated by Vital Kamerhe following discussions at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie in Montreal, reaffirms the interest of the two countries in strengthening their parliamentary cooperation. Adama Bictogo’s invitation to Kinshasa demonstrates the desire to share good practices and promote exchanges between African parliaments.

The meeting between Ivorian and Congolese parliamentarians will enrich parliamentary debates and strengthen democracy and transparency in legislative processes. The assessment of the execution of the 2023 budget and the preparation of the 2025 budget will provide an opportunity for MPs from both countries to exchange on good practices in public finance management.

The opening of this parliamentary session was marked by the absence of political activists, thus highlighting the importance given to parliamentary work as an independent institution and guarantor of national interests. The exchange of experiences between the parliaments of Côte d’Ivoire and the DRC will contribute to the mutual enrichment and consolidation of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This dynamic of parliamentary cooperation is part of a logic of regional integration and strengthening of democratic institutions in Africa. Exchanges between African parliaments constitute an essential lever for promoting good governance, transparency and respect for the rule of law on the continent.

By inviting Vital Kamerhe to share the Congolese parliamentary experience, Adama Bictogo demonstrates the importance of solidarity and cooperation between African peoples. This initiative marks an important step in bringing African parliaments closer together and contributes to strengthening democracy and governance in Africa.

In conclusion, parliamentary cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the DRC opens up new perspectives for strengthening democratic institutions in Africa and consolidating the bonds of brotherhood between the peoples of the continent.
